About

Europe has its “12 cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic” and the “Cello Octet Amsterdam”, who have toured the world as concert cellists. Now, it is Montreal’s turn to have its own such concept. With this in mind, Vincent Bélanger created Les 9, a group of 8 young Canadian cellists and a double bassist, assembled as a unique combination of exceptional talents and virtuosity.

“Les 9”, with Vincent Bélanger acting as Music Director, embrace originality and universality in their exploration of the repertoire. Discoveries abound: Ageless classics are revisited or adapted, along with whimsical modern music, in addition to an original composition. The various themes address contemporary issues that concern us all, with the intent to reach new audiences: “The power of projecting ourselves beyond what divides us.”
